Talking Ourselves Into It: Design and Power in UX writing

When we use language in products and services, we express our values, both what we’ve inherited and what we intend to act on. Words can help people feel like something is made just for them, and they can marginalize others as ‘edge cases’.

This talk will look at why UX writing isn’t just the latest new design title, it’s also essential to the way design shapes the world.

That’s why we’ll also look at some of the truly hard questions that come up when we as designers come face-to-face with the limits of our power to make the world, not just more inclusive, but more just. What happens to our words then?

Recorded at IxDA Oslo's meetup Nº 138 on 25 February 2020
